** Senior Services on the Western Slope **
Our beautiful Grand Valley here in Western Colorado offers unique lifestyle choices for so many people. Did you know that the Colorado Department of Local Affairs projects that Mesa County’s population will grow to almost 144,000 people by the year 2010? That is a 23% increase from 2000 - in just 10 years!
Just a few of the things that attract retirees to our valley here in Colorado are the temperate climate, small-town feel, affordability and beauty of the region. Were you aware that Mesa County and many local businesses also offer specialized services for those 50 and over? Insurance Advisors Agency currently is a member of the Senior Services Group, a group of businesses aimed at improving communication, selection, and services to seniors in Western Colorado. Many seniors can find products and services for discounted rates, and/or services that fit their individual and (sometimes) aging needs.
Mesa County offers programs such as SOS * Supporting Our Seniors * a volunteer program run by seniors for seniors. Also offered is the 211/InfoLine which is a service any resident can call to find out about community events, services for disabilities, transporation options for those who cannot drive, healthcare and many others. Simply dial “211″ from any local phone line, or call (970) 244-8400 from your cell phone, or home phone.
As Colorado and national healthcare continue to pose issues for both consumers and medical providers, some states, such as Colorado, have been discussing Colorado Reform. In Colorado, these reform options are aimed at making healthcare more readily available for those people who have no coverage through their employer, those who are considered to have low income and can’t afford coverage, and/or provide better preventive care initiatives for all.
